Friends of Karura Race Series

In partnership with Friends of Karura and Team Jasho we are excited to bring you the Friends of Karura race series.  Usually held on the third Sunday of the month, our 5km/10km series is the ideal way to keep motivated and to connect with other runners.

Held in the beautiful surroundings of Karura Forest, the series also includes a 2.75km kids event. Each race is chip-timed so you can track your progress across the year.

The series is split into two five-races seasons, each with its own medal.  You can register for a single season; or at the start of the year for a discounted full-year entry.

Series Details

What is the series schedule?  Except for the months indicated, events start at 8:00am on the third Sunday of the month

The dates for Season 2 2025 are: 15th Jun, 31st Aug (Fifth Sunday), 28th Sept (Fourth Sunday), 19th Oct, 16th Nov

Where are the races?  All races are in Karura Forest Block A.  The routes start just after the barrier between KFEET and Amani Gardens

What is the entry fee?  Adults are encouraged to enter the 5km or 10km series, whilst the 2.75km option is available for children.  Entry fees are:

  • Single Season Registration: Ksh 3,000 for the 5km/10km series; Ksh 1,500 for the kids 2.75km series
  • Full-Year Registration: Ksh 4,500 for the 5km/10km series (25% discount); Ksh 2,000 for the kids 2.75km series (33% discount)

What is included?  The entry fee includes: five races per season, forest entry and parking, chip timing, photography, a medal (one per season), and water, fruits and coffee at each event

Series t-shirts: We don't produce a new t-shirt for each season, so these aren't included in the entry fee.  However, if you are joining the series for the first time, you will be able to purchase a t-shirt at the events for Ksh 500

Can I enter a single race?  No, entry is only open for a full season (5 races) or the full year (10 races).

Are the races timed?  The races are chip timed and results and photos are published on this page the following day.  Season rankings are also calculated based on average times across the season

Will there be supervision for kids?  Any child participating in the 2.75km event should be able to complete the distance and wait independently for parent runners.  There will be race marshals at the finish line to assist child runners as they wait for a parent to complete the 5km or 10km course
